The U. S. Coast Guard plans to designate an official anchorage for ships waiting for a berth. Ships have been anchored off the shore of Cape Charles unofficially for 30+ years. The Lynnhaven anchorage is no longer able to be used due to the increased training operations at the Joint Expeditionary Base Fort Story. The Coast Guard is seeking community input on the matter and will be accepting public comments through August 31, 2016. Comments can be added to the docket at www.regulations.gov under Anchorage Grounds; Lower Chesapeake Bay, Cape Charles, VA. The docket number is USCG-2015-1118.
